New Project : The Kolomba Kamatha

Finally got to work on a trilingual brand, focused purely on local talent!

Created to be the people’s festival of the dramatic arts – a nexus for celebrating and mentoring excellence in Sri Lankan theatre.

The word “kamatha” is a reference to the venue name, recalling the space where farmers thresh and store their paddy after harvest – a place of activity & groundedness which is believed to have a natural synergy to the act of storytelling and the passing on of our stories of everyday living and humanity through vibrant enactment and togetherness.

This was one of those times I had to sketch the elements by hand & clean them up digitally to make up the Kolam masks, which in Sri Lanka, are traditional wooden masks used in various cultural rituals and performances.

Intricately carved and brightly painted, these masks represent different characters and deities, such as demons, animals, and folk heroes.

Pretty pleased with how this turned out, and so was the customer!
